Interview with the Playwrights: Frank D’Agostino

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Mostly life. I observe a lot. Since I was quite the outsider growing up

Have you had any of your plays staged before?
Yes. My first big budget production at gateway  playhouse. ” Cold As ice ” the musical about figure skating on Ice  It was a dream to see something fully realized with lights scenery etc and the characters in my head come to life! And have Olympic Champions skate to my music!

What is your favorite writing companion?
The beach or in my car driving. I can’t sit still! So I day dream. Then I write.

What’s your favorite part of the process?
Collaboration. Watching directors direct actors act lighting people design and musical directors direct. It’s exhilarating and magical.

What’s your least favorite part of the process?
Budgets. Financing and dealing with schedules etc. don’t enjoy details. Arrrrg! But they are necessary. It is called. Show- business!!!

If you were a kitchen utensil, what would you be?
A boiling pot of water. Treat me right and I’ll cook for you. Ignore me? I’ll boil over and Burn you!!!! Lol

What advice would you give other aspiring playwrights?
Don’t do this unless you want it as badly as your next breath of air!!!!

Do you consider yourself an adult?
I think so. But I do still dream and hope in a child like way. Eleanor Roosevelt wrote” Never deprive someone of Hope it may be all they have” I love that.

Do you have a zombie preparedness plan? 
Yes. Shoot myself before the attack. I need to die pretty like Marylyn!

What’s your favorite word?
YES. Because with that all things are possible.

What’s your favorite baby animal?
Kitten. Just because!
